The mother of a young daughter, married to photographer James Bort, leads a simple life far from the artificial hype of celebrity. Do you remember when you fell in love with dance?

I was 10 years old and went to see Giselle at the Capitole de Toulouse, a ballet that was both earthly and heavenly ... I understood that the dance steps I learned every Wednesday afternoon should carry a story, a music, a scenario. Two years later, I passed the audition for the dance school of the Paris National Opera. I missed the sun and the good bread from home, but I knew that I had to make sacrifices to become a dancer.

Sylvie Guillem, on the other hand, is the opposite of what I am, but a great source of inspiration. I have always admired women who have made a difference, who have made it possible for others to have the right to vote, to have abortions, these decisive steps towards emancipation.

My roles touch me for different reasons, but I love the courage and strength of Juliet, who at 16 makes an extraordinary decision for her time. For Romeo, she is willing to do anything. Like Manon, who steals from her lover to escape with her beloved. They emancipate themselves. This freedom to think, to act, to love, not to be subject to society, to a man, to a job, is crucial for a woman.

What is your favorite ballet as a spectator?

L'Histoire de Manon, of which I love the music and the story, and which can change completely depending on the staging. It's wonderful to rediscover a ballet again and again because of the different interpretations, where technique counts for very little. It is not the extra twist or the balance that moves me, but the emotion of the dancer.

As a dancer, you love to be able to go very far in your characters. And when the audience believes them, it's the most beautiful thing !

Beauty is also Freedom - which you feel when you dance?

Yes ! On stage you can do whatever you want : die, come back to life, kill someone, get rid of all codes, play a thousand characters looking for the emotions needed for the role. You are completely free. Time is out of order, ideas can pass very quickly or very slowly ... The reality is different!

Welche andere Kunstform berührt Sie so sehr wie der Tanz?

Das Kino. Hier schätze ich die Ästhetik des Bildes ebenso sehr wie das Drehbuch und die Menschen, die es tragen. What is the most precious thing you have learned during your career?

Realizing every day how lucky I've been. Sure, I've had setbacks, sometimes had to work harder than others, but that's what makes me who I am today. I thank life for making me realize how important work is. Otherwise, everything has gone smoothly, and I am grateful to my lovers, my husband, my family ...

Schönheit ist auch Freiheit … die Sie beim Tanzen spüren?

Ja ! Auf der Bühne kann man tun, was man will : sterben, wieder lebendig werden, jemanden töten, sich von allen Codes befreien, tausend Charaktere spielen und dabei nach den für die Rolle erforderlichen Emotionen suchen. Man ist völlig frei. Die Zeit ist außer Kraft, Vorstellungen können sehr schnell vergehen oder sehr langsam … Die Realität ist eine andere!

Was ist das Wertvollste, das Sie während Ihrer Karriere gelernt haben?

Jeden Tag aufs Neue zu erkennen, wie viel Glück ich hatte. Sicher, ich hatte Rückschläge, musste manchmal härter arbeiten als andere, aber das macht mich zu dem, was ich heute bin. Ich danke dem Leben, dass es mir bewusst gemacht hat, wie wichtig Arbeit ist. Ansonsten ist alles reibungslos gelaufen, und ich bin meinen Liebhabern, meinem Mann, meiner Familie dankbar …

After two hours of makeup and hair, I am tempted to answer ! But actually more when my husband finds me beautiful on Sunday mornings, before coffee ... Except on stage or a photo set, I do not wear much makeup and I like masculine clothes like a tuxedo to emphasize femininity. After unsettling me for a long time, my androgyny has become an asset!
